Walking tour of historic downtown Jordan

Date: Jul 10 2010 - 9:00am    Community: Jordan
Location:
Broadway and Water Street, Jordan, MN

The Scott County Historical Society is planning a leisurely and engaging walking tour of historic Water Street in downtown Jordan.

Nestled among the bluffs and rolling hills of the Minnesota River Valley, this guided tour offers visitors a glimpse into Jordan’s unique past. Incorporated as a city in 1891, Jordan remains today a vibrant area with small town charm and big-city possibilities.

More than seven buildings on Water Street alone are on the National Register of Historic Places. A building at 224 Water St. (1875) once housed Ruppert’s Bar. During the Depression the bar was raided by federal officers several times. Tour participants can learn more about this building and many others along the historic street.

All participants receive a Water Street history walking tour booklet.
Tour takes place Saturday July 10 at 9 a.m. Participants will meet at the southwest corner of Broadway and Water Street (must show ticket). The fee of $10 includes the guided tour and booklet. Registration is required — call (952) 445-0378 or e-mail info@scottcountyhistory.org.

The tour will be led by Theresa Norman, Scott County Historical Society curator of education and collections.
