Livonia Township - Planner's Corner
On June 24, 2009, Chuck Marohn of Community Growth Institute, along with Phil Hunsicker and Ashley Ver Burg of 1000 Friends of Minnesota, put together an Open House event to educate Livonia citizens about their comprehensive plan revision process. About 40 citizens came through to respond to questions about the community and future planning needs, have hot dogs on the grill and listen to a presentation on CGO, the work of 1000 Friends, the work of Community Growth Institute, and the challenges and opportunities facing Livonia Township.
Stations were set up around the town hall. At each station, questions were posed to residents to gauge their opinions on things like future land-use, transportation, parks and trails, the environment, zoning, etc. Did residents think the community was headed in the right direction, or did they feel that changes were necessary? If so, what kinds of changes need to be made?
Many of those present at the open house had not participated in the last comp plan revision process which failed to be adopted by the town board because they felt that citizen input was largely ignored. They don’t want that to be the case this time around, so all those present were encouraged to engage their friends and neighbors in the new revision process. Monthly task force meetings, which are open to all Livonia citizens, will happen on the 4th Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the Livonia Town Hall.
