City of Corcoran - Planner's Corner

Throughout this year, the City of Corcoran has been working with Bonestroo Planning and the Community Growth Options (CGO) program on updating and revising the City’s Comprehensive Plan. Comprehensive plans are guiding documents outlining a community’s vision for their future. Communities use comprehensive plans to help develop policies, regulations, and incentive programs which further their citizen’s priorities and interests. A committee of interested citizens worked with Bonestroo Planning to update the existing comprehensive plan for the City of Corcoran; both meeting the requirements of the Metropolitan Council and creating a document that represents the citizens of the City for the future.

The Plan cover topics such as future land use, natural resource protection, transportation goals, and economic development opportunities, among other topics.

On November 5th, 2009 the Planning Commission held a public hearing on the draft comprehensive plan, and anticipates making final edits and a decision on the draft on December 3rd, 2009. Implementation of the updated comprehensive plan is anticipated to begin early in 2010. Interested citizens should contact the City of Corcoran for more information.

Additionally, the City of Corcoran will be working with the CGO program to design a series of workshops and educational events for citizens in the coming year on topics ranging from involvement in local government to water and sewer issues in the City.
