Pine Island - Planner's Corner

Pine Island is dedicated to expanding their job base by planning for a bio-tech business development that establishes Pine Island as a work destination.

This effort involves multiple parts: First, planning coordinated residential and retail development to reduce VMT (vehicle miles traveled), link to its highly successful downtown, and offer healthy-living options to its residents. Second, new development will be linked with the existing city through trails, natural areas, roads and strategic locations of housing and businesses. And lastly, proactively planning for the future of the Highway 52 corridor by shaping adjacent development to be city-focused, not highway-focused.

Pine Island is also undertaking multiple forms of community engagement to make sure that the community is developed as well as the land. Building on a highly successful Town Meeting Initiative, CGO-supported planners are hosting interactive sessions that invite citizens into the planning discussion.

They are also updating city plans and ordinances to encourage innovative development forms and a close integration of old and new.
